UK Age Research Forum

Our History

The House of Lords Science and Technology Committee Inquiry in 2006 indicated the need for sustained, long-term investment in research relevant to ageing and older people which is well coordinated and directed.

In the Government’s reply to the inquiry, great importance was placed on the Funders Forum for Research on Ageing and Older People’s work in meeting the challenges identified for coordinating ageing research.

This led to a changed role for the Forum during 2006 – 2010 with an expansion of the membership and a regeneration of the alliance under a new name: The UK Age Research Forum (UKARF).

In line with changes in the research funding environment UKARF renewed its purpose in April 2011 and will continue to provide opportunities for members to network across sectors and learn about developments relevant to ageing research and implementations programmes.
